The deep blue and crystal clear shallows found in the BVI offer some of the best fishing in the Caribbean. Sport fishers can reel in a trophy sized Blue Marlin, Yellow and Black Fin Tuna, Wahoo, and Dolphin. Light tackle, inshore fishing can be very active also, hooking onto Dolphin, Barracuda, Kingfish, and Wahoo, and that’s what you’ll yell when you hook into one of these hard fighting fish caught on light tackle! World class blue marlin and other deep-sea fishing flourishes in places like Anegada’s North Drop, where undersea canyons “drop” off the plateau.
Bitter End’s fishing boats are outfitted for great sportfishing, with experienced guides, and are ideal for offshore trolling or fly fishing in the shallows. In the shallows, you can catch bonefish, and just off-shore, king fish, dolphin, wahoo and tuna.
Half day and full day fishing packages are available, starting at $400 for two anglers, and whether you are interested in fly fishing or inshore fishing, Bitter End will provide you with experienced guides and equipment to fish to your heart’s content. Or, feel free to bring your own gear. You can charter a Bradley 22 and take off for your own fishing adventure, or motor out on a Boston Whaler to sneak up on plentiful bonefish in the flats nearby. You can even fish from the shore for bonefish at the very north end of Bitter End!
Bonefishing:
Excellent bonefishing can be had in the BVI as well. Weighing up to ten pounds, the slender, silvery and surprisingly elusive bonefish makes an incredible fighting fish.
Flyfishing: As all of you fly fishermen know, salt water fly fishing is the fastest growing sport in the world, so if you are interested in catching fish “on the fly” in a new location, come and let the professionals at Bitter End guide you to the numerous unfished flats and reefs teeming with Bonefish, Permit and Tarpon. Some of the best saltwater fly fishing in the world can be found on several islands throughout the BVI and recent years have seen a marked increase in fly-fishing in the BVI, especially for tarpon, known as the “silver ghosts” of the flats. Also gaining in popularity is fly fishing from sea kayaks. At Bitter End, you get unlimited use of thier sea kayaks as well their other boats in the club fleet.
Fishing While Sailing: Simply drag a line from the rear when sailing to catch surface feeding fish such as Spanish mackerel, kingfish (also called king mackerel) tuna or even dolphin (not a porpoise). Return barracuda, which stink and may be poisonous.
BVI Billfish Tournament
Each year Bitter End Yacht Club is proud to host the annual BVI Billfish Tournament. Whether in your own boat or a locally chartered one, competitors enjoy fishing all day in the crystal clear water and relaxing in the evening with unforgettable social events. This catch and release contest usually takes place at the North Drop, in an area ranging just 13 to 30 miles from Bitter End on Virgin Gorda. Competitors spend the day casting out for prize-winning billfish in one of the best blue marlin fishing sites on the planet.
Stats will be recorded at sea before the fish are released and, upon return from the days’ adventures, virtual weigh-ins take place at the resort.
All guests wishing to fish while at Bitter End are required by BVI law to obtain a temporary fishing license. Bitter End can expedite the process and have the license ready upon your arrival. Just let us know and we’ll supply you with the necessary form and instructions.
